Secret Scent Box – July 2019

[Gifted] I’ve been loving trialling lots of new perfumes that have arrived over the past few months in various subscriptions – the Secret Scent Box being one of my favourites for a variety of three fragrances each month to put to the test out.

For those who haven’t been acquainted with this subscription before, I’d like to introduce you to Secret Scent Box. A monthly subscription for Men or Women who love fragrances, each box features three different fragrances in a handy handbag, or even pocket size vial. I tend to get 3-4 uses out of each sample which is enough for me to try before I would decided to buy, and I’ve already found myself in love with a couple of fragrances that I’d never have tried that I have on my Christmas list already this year!

One of the things I like about this box is that they seem to usually have three different types of fragrances in each box so there’s something for everyone to love, there’s also a mix of price-points and they include a nice little card which includes all the info you need on the notes of the fragrances. The best part is they’re beautifully packaged so they make a nice little gift for someone, or a treat for yourself, and the boxes they arrive in are the perfect size to slip through any post box. No annoying trips to the sorting office – hooray!

I trialled these in the order of the cards I thought I’d like most to least, and I surprised myself by it maybe being the other way round. I like all of these, but I was surprised to like the ones that I did most!

Calvin Klein Eternity Flame For Her

Eternity Moment is one of my favourite fragrances ever, it’s one I wore layered on my wedding day so I was looking forward to seeing what this newly launched perfume would be somewhat similar to Eternity Moment. It leans closer to the original Eternity, rather than my favoured floral fragrance. Its notes are Mandarin Orange, Sweet Pea and a base note of Labdanum (rockrose) which when I smelt it surprised me entirely that it wasn’t citrusy or floral. The Mandarin note is obvious when sniffed directly but once it’s on the skin a warm note comes out. People online describe this as Amber and I have to agree, it’s warm with that hint of spice, it’s nice but not what I was expecting based on the notes. I think I’d have liked this more if it arrived in a different season, so I might keep it safe until Autumn.

Versace Vanitas

Not a perfume I’d heard of before, and I have to admit that I probably always entirely overlook Versace perfumes when I’m in a store. This perfume is a very fresh and slightly woody floral which makes sense when I read up on the notes. The top notes of Freesia and Rose are the most obvious to me, there are base notes of Osmanthus and Tiare – the tiare seems entirely lost on my nose, it’s a scent I normally notice well having spent my honeymoon scattered around by them in hotels in Bali. But the base notes of tea and cedar bring a subtle lifted woody warmth. It’s described as evoking white blossoms in the breeze, and I have to admit it has a very natural airy floral scent.

Police Daydream

If Versace is a brand that I would normally overlook, then Police definitely is! This is a lovely summery perfume, hitting the nose with top notes of peach and grapefruit foremost, there’s floral midnotes of ‘white flowers’ and warm base that compliments and balances the fruity and floral notes well – with musk, sandalwood and vanilla. I really like the mix of notes on this, it manages to be fresh, warm, citrusy and floral all at once, without being too overwhelming.

If you’d like to subscribe you can find Secret Scent Box here, monthly deliveries are £15.00 (there are longer prepaid 6 and 12 month subscriptions available) and include free delivery to anywhere in the UK or Europe.

So there we are, three entirely new to me fragrances which are going to be lovely to use over summer. I’m going away this weekend as Ben is doing a 100km charity walk in 24 hours (sponsors welcome here!) and I’ll be throwing a couple of these in my bag for us whilst we were away.

Have you tried any of these fragrances before? What are your current favourite perfumes at the moment?
